THE STRANDING Observed in distress in the surf at the end of Janell Ct, on Emerald Isle.  E I volunteer Bob Horner swam out and brought her to shore.
She is emaciated and covered in epibionts.
She's missing the tip of her left front flipper, but this is an old injury.
THE TREATMENT Placed in shallow fresh water for the first 24 hours.  She was just too tired to lift her head.  Her water levels were then increased and she was offered food.  The good news is she ate it, without too much coaxing.
AUG 2008

Janell is feeling better, in deeper water, and eating.  Her plastron and soft tissue are healing and she is beginning to look like a healthy turtle.
